My Amazing Trip to Sohra
Sanjay Kalita (Class XI)
During the last summer vacation I visited Sohra, also known as Cherapunji, with my family. It's a beautiful place in Meghalaya, India. We stayed in a cozy resort with a stunning view of the mountains.
The Rainy Adventure Begins!
As we drove to Sohra, the roads became increasingly winding and scenic. We stopped at the Nohkalikai Falls, which was breathtaking! The waterfall was surrounded by lush green forests and misty clouds. My mom got a bit scared of the height, but my dad and I loved the view.
Exploring the Caves
Next, we visited the Mawsmai Cave. It was an adventure! We had to climb and crawl through narrow passages. My brother got a bit claustrophobic, but we encouraged him to keep going. Inside, we saw stunning rock formations and underground streams.
The Living Root Bridges
We also visited the famous Living Root Bridges. These natural bridges are made from the roots of ancient trees. We had to trek through the forest to reach them, but it was worth it. The bridges were so cool!
The Food
We tried some local Khasi food, which was delicious! My favorite was the Jadoh, a rice dish with pork and spices. My mom loved the Dohkhlieh, a traditional Khasi salad.
The People
The locals in Sohra were very friendly and welcoming. They shared stories about their culture and traditions. We even got to try some traditional Khasi tea.
The Conclusion
Our trip to Sohra was an unforgettable experience. The natural beauty, adventure, and local culture made it a trip to remember. I would love to visit Sohra again and explore more of its hidden gems.
